The remains of clay floors and stone walls were discovered during archaeological test excavation at Bessexwell Lane in 1996 (Excavation Licence No. 96E0030). Medieval pottery, leather scraps and three wooden pins were recovered from a layer of peat which underlay the site. (Campbell 1997, 74-5)
