Remodelled in the 1820s by Mr. Smith, an architect from Herefordshire (Leslie 1908, 126), this modern structure probably incorporates part of a tower house. This is evident at the NE angle where the walls of the corner tower and the E portion of the N wall are much thicker than the rest of the building. (Bassett 1886, 223; Tempest 1952b, 141)
