Spanning the Inny River at the S end of Ballymahon (LF027-003006-). In 1600 it is recorded that there was an intention to 'build a bridge over the Eney (Inny) in the borders of Westmeath and Longfort' (Cal. Carew MSS, vol. 3, 505). 'Ballymahan Bridge' is depicted on the Down Survey (1655-6) map of Rathcline barony (NLI, MS 719) and in 1682 it is described as 'a wooden bridge over the river' (Gillespie and Moran 1991, 209). No visible remains survive but the present bridge was probably built on its site. The latter bridge is a two-phase structure comprising an original five-arch span that was reduced to three c. 1970 with the addition of new reinforced concrete spans along the NW side. The original stone bridge may date from the early 18th century or possibly earlier (www.buildingsofireland.ie, Reg. 13316030, last accessed 26 March 2012).
