What is recorded here

A fording point over the Inny River is described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as ‘the foord of Ballahemper’ (Simington 1961, vol. 10, 46). It was located along the stretch of the river that forms the boundary with county Westmeath. The 'Ford & Eel Weir' named on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map may mark its site. No visible remains survive as this stretch of the river has been dredged. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 10 September 2012
