What is recorded here

Originally recorded as a band (exposed area L 1.5m; Wth 1.5m) of tightly packed, parallel roundwood and large brushwood (diam. 0.04-0.11m) located on the field surface and being milled. Two additional large pieces of brushwood were also exposed on the field surface 1.7m to the S but only for a distance of 0.1m. These pieces were orientated ESE-WSW (Dunne 1999, 38, 99DBSE035A). Excavation in 2002 yielded a date range of 1206-1129 BC (Whitaker 2009, 30). The remains were aligned NNE-SSW and were composed of 55% brushwood and 45% roundwood (diam. 0.016-0.14m), transversely laid. Eight elements had toolmarks, including chisel and wedge points. Compiled by: Mary Tunney based on data supplied by Jane Whitaker, Archaeological Development Services. Date of upload: 26 August 2011
