What is recorded here

On the gentle E-facing slope of a low ridge. Described in 1976 (SMR file) as a circular earthwork (c. 47m E-W; c. 45m N-S) defined by a slight earthen bank; a small section at W had been dug away. The interior was roughly equally divided by a NE-SW field boundary. The enclosure is now defined by a scarp (H 0.5-1.3m). It has been levelled from S-SSW-SW where it is skirted by a pathway. Possibly an ecclesiastical enclosure as it is known locally as a children's burial ground (LF020-033001-), and a pillar stone (LF020-033002-) and a cross-inscribed stone (LF020-033003-) are associated. (Crawford 1913, 326; 1926, 124-5; English 1971, 147) Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan, Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 5 June 2013
