Upon the summit of the motte and bailey (LF014-050----). The grass-covered remains of a collapsed stone building may be the remains of an O’Farrell castle of 16th century date. In 1605 Mary, lady Delvin, widow of lord Christopher, and her son sir Richard Nugent, baron of Delvin received a grant of land from the King including ‘the castle of the Moate, and 5 cartrons there; parcel of the estate of Rossey O’Farroll; valued at 13s 4d Ir. (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 74).
