What is recorded here

Associated with a possible motte (LF014-043----). An early 17th-century map of Granard barony (BL, Cotton MS Augustus I.i.47) depicts a castle on the summit of a motte. An Inquisition taken in 1604 recorded that Lyshagh Duffe O’Ferrall was found guilty of treason and seised of the ‘castr de Newton’ (Anon. 1826, Inq. 2 Jac 1). It was granted to Mary, Lady Delvin and her son Sir Richard Nugent, Baron of Delvin in 1605 (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 74). No visible surface trace survives.
