In Longford town (LF013-026----). At the outbreak of the 1641 Rebellion one of the O'Farrell's nailed a government proclamation to the market cross (Gillespie 2005, 106). This event is described in the 1641 depositions where it is recorded that he 'did affix one of the said Proclamacions or coppies to the Crosse in the Towne of longford' (TCD, MS 817, fol. 235v). Its precise location has not been identified. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 31 July 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
