Depicted as a tower house-type structure on an early 17th-century map of Granard barony (BL, Cotton MS Augustus I.i.47) close to the N bank of the Camlin River. Its precise location has not been identified. An inscribed stone (LF010-135001-), built into a gateway pier on the N side of the 19th-century courtyard associated with the now-levelled ‘Kilshruley Manor’, records that the castle was repaired by Captain Andrew Adaire in 1666. Captain Adaire was granted land under the Act of Settlement (1662) and Act of Explanation (1665) (O’Hart 1884, 372, 452). (Burke 1838, vol. 4, 756; Hayton 1996, 263)
