During the course of excavations in 2002 at the deserted settlement (LF010-078001-) in Granardkille, a stone-lined pit with deposits of cremated bone was discovered. The sides of the pit were lined with upright stones and a large flat paving stone, with smaller stones encircling it, formed the bottom. There were five layers of deposition and all contained some cremated bone and unburnt cattle bone. The greatest amount of cremated bone, mixed with charcoal, was lying on the paving stone. One of the stones lining the pit was found to be some type of grinding stone (O'Conor 2006, 319). (O'Conor and Dillon 2002, 133-5)
