What is recorded here

Situated on a rise on a SE-facing slope. Archaeological monitoring (03E1761) over a wide area W and N of Lough Errew identified numerous archaeological features that could be preserved in situ, but two possible prehistoric hut-sites were excavated (04E1141) completely. This oval feature (ext. dims 7.3m N-S; 4.5m E-W) was defined by a slot-trench (max. Wth 0.7m) open to the E. There was no hearth but there were traces of an occupation surface inside the perimeter at W. Some flint and chert items are associated with it and the edge of a burnt mound (dims 1m x 0.5m) was just to the E. Hut-site (LE036- (28)) is c. 30m to the NW.
