What is recorded here

Two bridges across the Shannon are marked on the Down Survey (1656-8) Barony map of Leitrim barony, N and S of Jamestown. This is the only record of a bridge N of the town and is probably speculative as it was intended that a town would develop at Charlestown on the Roscommon side of the river as a county town for that county, but it never came to pass. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 6 December, 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
