What is recorded here

Richard Boyle, the Earl of Cork, and Sir Charles Coote set up iron works in Leitrim in 1629, but the Coote family seem to have been the chief promoters of the enterprise in Leitrim during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. There are references to iron working in Drumsna in the 17th and 18th century but it is not known who owned them (McCracken 1957, 131). An iron works has not been located. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
