What is recorded here

Discovered while excavating for fireclay for fire-clay in 1956. An oblong pit, orientated N-S, with the remains of a wooden trough dating to 3500 + - 35 BP (OPW file; JIA 1989-90, 27). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
