What is recorded here

Unlocated landscape feature within townland, described by Carrigan as 'At the north side of the Moat (Middlemount), about 20 yards from its base, is a plot, a quarter of an extent, called 'the Friar's Garden'; its fences are still well marked. In the small space between it and the moat, are some slight traces of a house, evidently the residence of a friar from whom the garden is named' (Carrigan 1905, 61). The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
