Unlocated cists within townland described O'Byrne in the nineteenth century as 'Some years ago a ploughman in the employment of Thomas Kilbride Esq. discovered, beneath a flag about eighth feet long, the remains of a human skeleton, with a sword of an enormous size lying beside it. The skeleton measured seven feet (O'Byrne 1856, 12). According to H. Roe three cists were opened in 1880 not far from the Dun of Luggacurren, these contained food vessels and broken bronze armlets' (H. Roe, Unpublished report A record of archaeological discovery, p. 4).
