The location of this possible church cannot be precisely located as recorded by Carrigan who stated in 1905 that 'the site of this church, which, like several other churches in Upperwoods, was probably of wood, cannot be pointed out' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 152). According to Carrigan the townland name is derived from the Church of the yew tree (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 152). A font (LA011-005/LA011-023002-) now at Burke's cross originally came from this unlocated church site (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 152). It may be possible that the R. C. church at Killanure was built on the site of an earlier church which may explain the finding of the font on the site of the R. C. church.
