What is recorded here

On a very steep SW-facing slope of Brandon Hill. The cairn is just inside the perimeter of large enclosure (KK033-008001-) at NW where the straight wall of the enclosure runs up the slope. A circular cairn (basal diam. 8.9m NW-SE; 8.6m NE-SW; H 1-1.1m rising to 1.5m in the SE-SW downslope sector), covered in peaty clay with grass and heather. The top of the cairn has been dug out, forming two hollows (dims. 2.4m NW-SE; 1.8m NE-SW; D 0.4-0.5m and c. 1.6m) that join together, with spoil to the SW. A fosse (Wth 4.5-4.8m; D 0.8m) is evident from NW-SE, dug into the up-slope side. Attached images: KK033-008002-_01 the hollows from SW; KK033-008002-_02 fosse at N from W; KK033-008002-_03 cairn from W Compiled by: Jean Farrelly and Michael Moore Date of upload: 13 November 2017
