What is recorded here

In an area of low-lying pasture. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3677). A subcircular possible trough (1.5m x 1.3m x 0.52m) filled with heat-shattered stone and charcoal-rich soil and a number of pits, the largest of which (3.5m x 3.5m x 0.9m) contained a silty fill with charcoal inclusions. Other pits were filled with charcoal-rich silty clay as were a number of possible post-holes and stake-holes. These formed no particular pattern. A small fragment of ash yielded a radiocarbon date of 2272-2039 cal BC (UBA-10989). (Lyne 2010, 243, no. 912; Lyne and Coughlan 2010) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 26 November 2013
