On a rise with land sloping to the N. A round tower (KK031-030001-) and 12th/13th-century church (KK031-030003-) lie c. 130m to the SSW and c. 110m to the S respectively. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 4, 6) St Brendan of Birr was the patron of the church and the holy well (Kk031-029---) c. 220m to the NW of the church is dedicated to him. On the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map the large field in which the church and graveyard are located is called, 'Church Meadow', it extended northward to the public road, as well as E, S and W of the graveyard. Archaeological investigations carried out in 2005 in advance of a proposed development revealed a sizeable ditch/boundary running N-S, with stone revetting on its E side. A gully, running E-W, was also uncovered. It appeared to be filled with kiln material indicating industrial activity. The excavator suggested that given the proximity of an Early Christian monastic site, the ditch may represent a small part of the fosse of an ecclesiastical enclosure associated with it (Devine 2008, 194 (791); Excavation licence no. 05E1317).
