What is recorded here

On the lower slope of an E-W ridge E-W, the ground is fairly level to the N but falls away suddenly to stream to the SE. There is a possible moated site (KK030-014----) c. 290m to the SW. Shown on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map as a hachured subrectangular enclosure (dims. c. 42m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) tapering to the NE surrounded to the N and W by marshy, rough pasture. The land has since been reclaimed and the monument levelled, except for the SW side which is incorporated in an irregular field boundary which appears to follow the line of a stream. If this was a moated site the stream was probably utilised to provide water for the moat. See attached: KK030-015----_01 Extract from 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 9 August 2023
