What is recorded here

In tillage. Another enclosure (KK028-009----) is located c. 170m to the SSW. Indicated as a roughly tear-drop shaped sandpit (dims. c. 67m N-S; c. 46m E-W) on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and as a roughly circular enclosure (overall dims. c. 54m N-S; c. 48m E-W) on the 1948-9 revision. On the 25 inch OS map it is depicted as a sub-rectangular area (dims. c. 35m N-S; c. 27m E-W) enclosed by a wide fosse (overall Wth c. 11m; Wth at base c. 4m). The enclosure had been levelled by 1995, as it is visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery from that year (OS 1995). A more recent satellite image (Google Earth satellite, imagery date 9 August 2022) shows a roughly circular cropmark, though the N sector is not visible and the edge of the SE sector is very irregular, all indications of disturbance which is likely to be caused by quarrying.   Compiled by: Jean Farrelly
