What is recorded here

Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 330) refers to, 'High Rath, a sub-division of Castle Eve, is so called from an ancient fort long since levelled'. 'Highrath' is the name given to a settlement cluster on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map and is also on the 1948 revision and the 25-inch OS map. The 'fort' is unlocated within the townland, however, an enclosure (KK027-086----), which was been identified as a cropmark within the townland c. 590m SW of Highrath, may be the levelled 'fort'. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
