The OS Letters (1839) mention that there is, ‘a piece of land in the Townland of Barrowmount called Killeen, in which there must have been a little Church from which the name was derived’ (O’Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 23 (9)). This is speculation based on the name ‘Killeen’ which according to the OS Letters, ‘is a “small Church” or graveyard’ and is associated with, ‘a piece of land containing about ten or twelve acres’ (ibid. 26-7 (10)). The OS Letters dismiss any association with the ‘Grave Yard’ indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map, c. 275m NE of Brookhill House, as this graveyard dates to c. 1800 when a vault was constructed by a member of the Gore family and in the enclosing area, ‘a few only of the servants of the family were interred’ (ibid.). The precise location of this possible ‘Killeen’ graveyard is unknown.
