House — 17th century in Sheastown

According to Manning (2012, 144) ‘old Sheastown House’, which is depicted in an illustration by Robertson in 1851, was demolished in the late 19th century. The house appears to have dated to the late 17th century, being the probable residence of Richard Shee of ‘Sheestown’ in 1687 (Index to Irish wills in the Carrigan Manuscripts, Irish Genealogist Vol 4 No 3 1970). It is depicted on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map, though it is not named, with a number of outbuildings. The house is shown as being T-plan with the front façade overlooking the River Nore. On Robertson's sketch (http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000548562?ui=standard; viewed 20 October 2021) it is drawn as a two-storey seven-bay house with a chimney on both gables, the rear of the house is not visible. The house is no longer visible at ground level and the avenue for Sheestown Lodge, c. 530m to the SE, appears to run over it. See attached: KK024-118----_01 View of Sheestown House by W.
