What is recorded here

According to the SMR file a stone and large house are marked on the Down Survey map (1655-6) (which copy of the Down Survey used is not indicated). There is no house indicated on the Down Survey barony map of Gowran in Dunbell townland or on the parish map of Dunbell (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin; NLI MS720), nor is it mentioned in the terrier accompanying the parish map (NLI MS720). The house may be indicated on a different copy of the Down Survey. The location of the house is unknown within the townland of Dunbell Big. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 19 October 2021

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
