What is recorded here

In a low-lying basin within a gently undulating wide landscape. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3459). Four cereal-drying kilns were excavated in the vicinity of a pond (10m square). The kilns all showed evidence of intense burning in situ and were either circular or oval in plan. Two post-holes were found near the kilns but their precise function is uncertain. A sample of charred barley from one kiln returned a radiocarbon date of 184 cal BC – cal AD 56 (UBA-15559).
