A castle is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Sheelogher, ‘Sheelelogher’ (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin), roughly in the location of Ballymack House in Ballymack (Desart) townland. Commins (1906, 266) mentions that the Comerford family owned castles and estates at a number of places, including Ballymack. The precise location of the castle is unknown within the townlands of Ballymack (Desart) and Ballymack (Flood).
