According to Mason (1819, vol. 3, 611-12), ‘About half a mile [c. 800m] to the west of this cross [Grace’s Cross KK019-002----] is a stone, with some rude unintelligible characters, said to be Irish. The peasantry call it “Clogh Grasagh,” (Graces’s stone) and say that from that spot the funeral procession of some popular favourite of this family extended to Kilkenny, and that those who happened to be in the rear, stood here while the ceremony of interment was performing in the cathedral’. Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 200) however refers to the Grace's Cross as 'Clogh Grasagh' and treats the wayside cross and memorial stone as the one monument.
If Mason was correct, then the memorial stone was probably in Lacken townland. There is a fork in the road 175m W of Grace’s Cross with a road running NW though Lacken and the other running SW along the townland boundary. The stone is unlocated.
