Indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of ‘The Liberties of the Citty of Kilkenny’ and on the Down Survey parish map ‘Canice in the Liberties of the Citty of Kilkenny’ as a castle or fortified house on the W bank of the River Nore, roughly in the vicinity of an enclosure (KK019-008----) (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The precise location of the building is unknown within this portion of Talbotsinch townland. The terrier accompanying the parish map lists 'Major Adams protest[an]t' as the proprietor in 1640, whose land is not listed as forfeit (ibid.). The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
