What is recorded here

In St Francis' Abbey (KK019-026101-). A portion of one side of a limestone graveslab (L 0.34m; Wth 0.205m; D 0.14m), which has a raised border and chamfer side. It bears an incised inscription in Lombardic script. The inscription is transcribed and translated by Bradley (1980, 13, no. 42) as, ‘…RE: GIT: …[M]ERCI’, ‘(Here lies)... re. (God have) mercy (on his/her soul)’. There is possible incised decoration immediately above the ‘GIT’ which may be part of a fleur-de-lis.   Compiled by: Jean Farrelly
