In St. Francis' Abbey (KK019-101----). A limestone mural tablet (L 0.865; Wth 037m; T 0.18m) with an English inscription in Roman capitals. According to the Rev. James Graves the fragment has been inserted into a wall in the starch-yard of the brewery which adjoined the abbey on the S side, he provided an transcription as follows: Here lyeth the body of Mrs. Agnes Banckes alias Smith. Daughter of Mr. John Smith of Damagh in the County of Kilkenny, Gentleman and was marryed to Mr. William Banckes of Kilkenny, Pewterer. Deceased the 8th day of January, 1687. I pray God be mercyfull to her Soule. Amen (Carrigan 1905, vol. 3, 109-10). The inscription is within a rectangular border (Wth 0.04m along top; 0.06m along the sides and 0.025m along the bottom), with an I.H.S. and M.A. within curvilinear brackets along the top border.  Compiled by: Jean Farrelly
