A house is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of 'Tulleroane', in the barony of Crannagh, S of the castle (KK018-035001-) of 'Oldtowne' (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The house is stylistically depicted in a very simple form. Another house (KK018-035002-), similarly depicted, is also shown on the parish map W of the castle (ibid.). The terrier accompanying the parish map lists 'John Grace protest[ant]' as the proprietor of 'Ouldtowne' in 1640and states that the land was 'unforfeited', which implies that the landowner had not sided with the rebels in the 1641 Rising (ibid.). The precise location of the house within the general area S of the castle in Oldtown townland is unknown. See attached: KK018-035003-_01 Extract from Down Survey (1655-6) parish map of 'Tulleroane', in the barony of Crannagh, Co. Kilkenny (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin) Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 24 January 2022

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
