What is recorded here

On gentle E-facing slope in flat pasture. Excavated in 2007/8 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3858). Quantities of iron slag, combined with the presence of small iron tools (including a tanged knife of early medieval type) and fragments of tools found in gullies, drains and waterholes suggested that ironworking had taken place in the vicinity. A ring-ditch (KK016-023----) was excavated 5m to the NE and a fulacht fia (KK016-022----) was excavated c. 10m to the NE. (Wiersbicki 2009; 2010, 251-2, no. 954) Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 January 2014
