What is recorded here

Listed as 'Cemetery site' in the RMP (1996). A number of extended inhumations in unlined graves discovered in gravel debris during quarrying in 1971. The burials were in rows and were oriented E-W. The site was extremely disturbed and the exact number of burials was unclear. Finds included an iron knife and a decorated whetstone. A sample of human remains was dated to 1445+/- 40 BP or AD550-657. Black Castle (KK014-049----) lies c. 300m to the S and a church (KK014-050003-) and ecclesiastical enclosure (KK014-050001-) are c. 300m to the NE. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 70-72).
