What is recorded here

On the floor of a valley, in mostly reclaimed grassland. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 376), the 'castle of the Graces stood about 500 yds. south of Killahy church [KK013-067001-]. Only a very small fragment of it remains. Beside it are the extensive ruins of a fine mansion of about the year 1700'. The castle is indicated on the 1st (1839) and subsequent 1900 revision OS 6-inch map. It is clearly visible on the 25-inch OS map as a rectangular building (dims. c. 8m x 6m), orientated NW-SE, with a wall (L c. 4.5m), possibly a bawn, running NE from the SE angle. The castle is not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 21 December 2016
