On the roadside c. 20m S of the Nuenna river, on the flat valley floor. It is described in the OS Letters (1839) as, 'a large spring bubbling from the earth with considerable strength and rendered remarkable by a large aged ash tree which grows over it. It is dedicated to the Patron Saint Achadh Ur and called Tobar Laichtin but it is no longer regarded as a holy well. About fifty years ago old people were in the habit of performing Stations at it on every Saturday but Dr. Marum, R.C. Bishop of Ossory, abolished all those customs throughout the Diocese' (O'Flanagan ed. 1930, vol. 1, 188 (62)). Another source cites Dr. Kinsella as the Bishop who prohibited pilgrimages at St. Lactan's Well (Anon. 1891, 116). When visited in 1987 the well was enclosed by a relatively recent wall and was still regarded as a holy well.
