What is recorded here

On the summit of Knockmajor, the highest hill in the area. According to Tighe (1802, 633), 'On the summit of a hill called Knock-major from a modern proprietor Major Purcell, and above the place of burial [KK011-017001-/KK011-017002-], is a small circular enclosure'. Adjacent to the trigonometrical station there is a small coniferous plantation, the ground within which is littered with stones, irregular stoney banks and stones set on edge suggestive of kerbing from S-SW. Possibly the remains of a robbed-out cairn which may have been interpreted as a small enclosure. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 31 January 2018
