On a natural plateau above the confluence of two rivers. Within a roughly triangular-shaped graveyard (KK011-008002-). According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 457), the 'ancient church of Coon, called Kill-a-Chooing (Cill a'Chuain), stood close to the present chapel [c. 200m to the SW], within an area 60 perches [c. 300m] in extent and elevated considerably over the Coon river, which washes its base. From the slight traces remaining it is evident that it was a clay or mud-wall structure. It was about 45 ft. [c. 13.7m] from east to west, by 18 ft. [c. 5.5m] from north to south'. The church is not visible at ground level.
