What is recorded here

A castle (KK010-119001-) is indicated on the Down Survey Parish map of Mothill (1655-6) in Corbetstown townland. The terrier accompanying the map records, ‘In Corbetstowne a Castle and Cabbins’, with the proprietor listed as ‘Walter Archer Fitz John Ir[ish] Pa[pis]t’. While the castle has been located to a farmyard in the townland, the precise location of the houses is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 14 January 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
