What is recorded here

Within the chancel of Coolcraheen church (KK010-060001-). According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 195), there are some, 'fragments of a coffin-shaped floor-slab, with a beautiful incised cross in the centre...Of the inscription, which is Lombardic, and runs, in two parallel lines, under the right arm of the cross, beginning at the top or wider end of the slab, the following remains: RIKAR.....CHIRCB....SA AL....T MERC.. that is, "Rikard [de] Chircb...[lies here.] On his soul may [God] have mercy."' The lombardic inscription suggest a 13th/14th century date for this graveslab. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 17 December 2018
