What is recorded here

On a gently sloping terrace a little below crest of hills to W and N, in rolling grassland, on the W side of Dinin river valley. There are good views in all directions. Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and subsequent 1947 revision. It was subsequently levelled and appears as a cropmark on an aerial photograph (CUCAP, BGG076, 16 July 1971). It is visible on Digitalglobe satellite imagery (viewed 5 December 2018) as a circular area (diam. c. 40m) enclosed by bank, fosse and outer bank. The outer defenses are particularly clear in the SE quadrant. The SW perimeter has been truncated by a field boundary running NW-SE. According to tradition there was a castle (KK010-043002-) on Maudlin moat, but it is unclear whether this castle was on this monument or another enclosure (KK010-062----) c. 180m to the SW (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 203; O'Kelly 1969, 46-7).
