Within the western flood-plain of the River Nore. A burnt mound and a metalworking site (KK009-096----) were revealed during archaeological monitoring of a Bord Gáis Éireann gas pipeline development and excavated in 1999 (Stevens 2000, 150-51; Licence no. 99E0597).
The burnt mound is located 8m N of the metalworking site. The mound (dims. 4m x 2m; D 0.15m) consists of a small spread of charcoal-rich soil, fire-cracked stone (90% sandstone/10% limestone) and silt. It is unclear whether this burnt mound is associated with the adjacent metalworking site or is an unrelated fulacht fia. (Stevens 2000, 150-51). A fulacht fia (KK009-097----) lies c. 190m to the S.
