A castle is shown on the Down Survey (1655-6) composite map at the approximate position of Ballyspellan House which is roughly in the centre of the townland. The house does not contain a medieval core. Though the castle may have been located in the vicinity of Ballyspellan House, its precise location is unknown.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
