What is recorded here

On a steep W-facing slope, at the division between fertile valley sides and very steep rocky uplands, in generally rolling grassland. There is a ringfort (KK008-121----) c. 150m to the NNE, a smaller enclosure (KK008-122003-) c. 115m to the NE and another ringfort (KK008-123---) c. 150m to the S. There are good views in all directions except E where the monument is overlooked by higher ground. An oval area (diam. c. 51m NW-SE; c. 42m NE-SW on 25-inch OS map) enclosed by wide earthen bank (Wth 2.5-4m; int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.2-2m) and wide external fosse (Wth 5m; D 0.4-1.2m), berm (Wth c. 20-40m) and outer bank and fosse. The outer perimeter appears on the 6-inch OS maps (1839 and 1900) eds to be incorporated in a curving field boundary NW-N-SE and on an aerial photograph (CUCAP BGN 91, 1971) this is visible as a cropmark. The inner enclosure is heavily overgrown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 22 January 2018
