What is recorded here

The OS Letters (1839, 135) refer to ‘an old road which they [the local people] call Bothar Chiarain (Boher Kieran) i.e., Kieran’s Road, leading out from the town to the south. I traced this old road through cornfields, meadows and more than four miles from Ferta, and they tell me here that it is known all the way to Callan, over hills and valley. It would be easy to put this ancient road on the Plan, if deemed worth doing so’. The precise location of this road is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 2 October 2018

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
