Following a successful petition by William Wandesforde in 1653-4, he was confirmed in possession of a 'water milne....near the said town' of Castlecomer (Nolan 1979, 66). A watermill is indicated on the Down Survey map (1655-6) in the settlement of Castlecomer (Farrelly et al. 1992, 130). The precise location of this water mill is unknown.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
