In Carrigan’s manuscript notes (unpublished), he describes two enclosures (KK005-062001-; KK005-062004-) in Garrannaguilly. This is immediately followed by, ‘The rath in Thorpe’s land’, which he describes as being, ‘circular and about 31yds [28m] in diameter; in a very ruinous condition: some whitethorns grow around the ring. Within 4 [3.65m] or 5yds [4.57m] to the NE side is a low artificial sepulchral mound (KK005-067----) or tumulus (where the cist must have been found) which appears to have been disturbed or excavated’. It is possible that the rath and mound are both also located in Garrannaguilly townland, though they may also be located on neighbouring townlands in the vicinity.
