What is recorded here

In pasture, on a N-facing slope overlooking Kenmare Bay. This burial ground occupies a triangular area (36m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by an earth and stone field boundary on its W side, by a low wall, covered by overgrowth, on its S side and by a low intermittent bank on its NE side. The graves are marked by low upright stones which are largely obscured by a dense overgrowth of ferns and briars. A grave-marker (H 0.55m; Wth 0.4m) in the S part of the burial ground is inscribed with a small cross and the date '1766' on its E face. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
